Abstract

Irrespective of the slow stride of the African Union, the African continent has been able to make substantial economic growth and development, however, a lot of work remains. Using two of Africa’s economic giants, Nigeria, and South Africa, this paper aims to assess the determinants of bilateral trade flows between Nigeria and South Africa by evaluating various factors and examining both countries economic position on an individual level. The study makes use of conclusions prescribed by many authors and uses the gravity model to make a thorough analysis of the variables mentioned. Both qualitative and quantitative reports and results were used to find the determining factor of bilateral trade flows between Nigeria and South Africa and what this relationship means for the African Continent as a whole.
