Budapest Business School Rákos Zsuzsanna Dorina Faculty of Commerce, Catering and Tourism Tourism and Hotel Management January 2017 Return of Investment on a new coffee house in the heart of Budapest The topic of this study aims to draw attention to the significance of coffee shops and the market research process of the investment in an own business. Through extensive research and a comprehensive argument, the Author wishes to support the hypothesis that opening and operating a coffee shop in a sound business manner in Budapest is a viable and profitable investment. Moreover, it is highlighted that the topic is current and relevant, due to the fact that more and more investors see vision in the culture and service varieties of coffee shops. Moreover, the Author premises the nature and importance of coffee shops including a historical review, subsequently analyzing the competition in the actual area outlining competitors and investigation of their target segments, products and pricing strategies by providing extensive data. The Thesis focused on researching the state of the market in this part of the hospitality sector in the period after the economic recession of 2008 and demonstrated relevant data. Furthermore, investigating the success and profitability of a possible investment is a key component of the Thesis, as well as researching the new investors, and the statutory requirements of the investment. Investigation of customer behavior and researching their expectations, special needs and consumer habits was also of paramount importance. Finally the Thesis was concerned with evaluating how to be prepared to maintain a successful business through the experiences of other owners and determining the conditions of a profitable and unique business according to the understanding of the author. In conclusion, the Author comprehensively carried out the task of research and investigation in the aspects outlined in the introduction, and developed each topic to fulfillment. The Author provided an insight into the history of coffee houses, as well as the current Hungarian coffee shop market, focusing on the viability of profitability through sound investment, careful planning and a passion for success through employing the right staff.
