Absztrakt (kivonat)

This thesis examines how biographical films shape our ideas about real people, and what ethical messages they send. I used concepts from film studies, communication theory, and representation to explore how these movies turn more complicated lives into stories that are emotional and easy to follow. My research brings together a review of existing literature, articles, detailed analysis of three well-known music biopics- Bohemian Rhapsody, The Dirt, Straight Outta Compton- and insights from a sales agent who has been in the film industry for multiple decades now. The findings show that things like estate involvement, storytelling, style choices, and how much filmmakers dramatize events all influence how the audience, or the general public perceives the stories, and the people on screen. The study also shows how certain factors, like industry pressures or audience expectations, shape the ethical decisions of how to make a biographical film. Overall, the thesis argues that biopics are not just a form of entertainment, because they play a major role in constructing the public meaning of how people are understood.
