Absztrakt (kivonat)

This thesis examines how voluntary health insurance is reshaping Hungary’s healthcare system. As the public sector continues to struggle with chronic underfunding, increasing workforce shortages, ageing infrastructure, and long waiting times, VHI has rapidly expanded, especially through employer-based schemes that offer faster access, modern facilities, and more personalised care. While these private solutions help reduce pressure on the overstretched public system, they also raise concerns about fairness, as access to higher-quality services becomes increasingly dependent on income and employment status. The study therefore evaluates whether the growth of VHI can enhance sustainability, efficiency, and patient satisfaction without eroding the principles of solidarity and universal access that underpin Hungary’s tax-funded healthcare model.
