Absztrakt (kivonat)

This thesis investigates how stress influences economic decision-making comparing Generation X (1965-1980) and Generation Z (1997-2012). Using the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), BRIEF COPE, and decision scenarios, the study integrates dual-system thinking with coping models. Results reveal that contrary to popular discourse, both generations report equivalent, “moderate” levels of perceived stress. The main differences were detectable in coping preferences. Generation X prefers problem-focused mechanisms (e.g., active planning) whereas Generation Z relies on emotion-focused strategies. Regarding decision-making, both cohorts demonstrated comparable vulnerability to most heuristics, supporting System 1 thinking. The negotiation context revealed differences, where Generation X showed a higher tendency toward anchoring bias, while Generation Z reported greater anxiety-driven impulsiveness. The data indicates that while stress degrades decision-making quality universally, the specific coping mechanisms deployed differ significantly by generation.
