Absztrakt (kivonat)
This thesis looks at why people pay taxes even when they are not forced to. Many studies in the past focused on punishment and audits as reasons for paying taxes. However, this research shows that other factors like trust in the government, fairness, and personal values also play an important role. The study includes a review of academic literature and a survey with 63 Hungarian taxpayers. The results show that many people believe paying taxes is a moral duty, even if they do not trust the government or tax system. This situation is called the “tax morale paradox.” People want to do the right thing, but they often feel that the system is unfair or not transparent. The study also finds that positive communication and clear information from the government can increase people’s willingness to pay taxes. The research suggests that governments should not only use rules and punishments, but also build trust and show respect to taxpayers if they want better tax compliance.
