Absztrakt (kivonat)

This thesis investigates how unfair trading practices influence the behaviour of investors and the overall stability of the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE). The study uses information gathered from investors, a professional broker, and actual trading activity to understand how manipulation appears in the market and how it affects people’s decisions. The research shows that several forms of manipulation continue to take place in the ASE, ranging from misleading price movements to artificial trading activity meant to influence how a stock looks. These actions create confusion among investors and make the market harder to trust. Many retail investors, who form a large part of trading in the ASE, are especially vulnerable because they often depend on quick signals or public rumours rather than detailed analysis. Weak liquidity, limited transparency, and gaps in supervision help these behaviours continue. Both investors and the interviewed broker agree that manipulation is a serious concern, but they also believe the situation can improve if monitoring becomes stricter and financial awareness increases. Strengthening the role of regulators and introducing clearer rules would help improve market discipline and give investors more confidence. This could also attract new participants and support the long-term development of Jordan’s financial market. Overall, this thesis contributes to a deeper understanding of how manipulation works inside a smaller emerging market and highlights the connection between supervision, transparency, and investor trust. The findings underline the need for stronger protective measures to build a fairer and more dependable trading environment in the ASE.
