Absztrakt (kivonat)
Looking at the existing research, I have noticed that the importance of strategy implementation is not talked about enough. Through the family business, I have seen that having a clear strategy certainly helps guide the organization in difficult times, which motivated me to write about this topic. The research actually gives us information on the implementation, stating that 70% of strategies fail because they were not properly implemented in their planned strategy (Mankins et al., 2005). The aim of this thesis is to give answers to two main research questions:Why do organizational strategies often fail in practiceHow can leaders bridge the difference between planned strategy and real-world implementation? In order to clearly answer these questions, this study focuses on defining the key terms that will be mentioned throughout the thesis. The focus is on what a strategy is, implementation, leadership and failure. Using definitions by some of the biggest names in strategy implementation, such as Kotter, Chandler, Rothaermel and Mintzberg, but others too, the study explains that strategy is a formed theory to achieve competitive advantage and an actionable process. To ensure a more stable implementation process, I suggest conducting regular follow-ups with employees that would provide a visual presentation of their progress. Managers should also be actively involved in the process and make room for flexibility when developing a plan. Involvement of employees and providing positive feedback should also be a factor that managers should implement in their behaviour towards employees. To conclude, based on my research, strategy has proven to be more successful when it focuses on human behaviour rather than on precise planning or rigid deadlines. Flexibility and involvement have proven to be more useful, with employees better engaged and motivated to implement a change in the organization.
