Absztrakt (kivonat)
This dissertation examines how Aritficial Intelligence (AI) can be effectively integrated intooperational-level decision-making. AI tools have become increasingly vital to keep up with thecompetition in business, that is why managers need to understand how to use this technology intheir everyday business processes. This study questioned how artificial intelligence is currentlyused in daily operations and how these uses align with already established decision-makingtheories. The literature review covers the foundational technical information of AI (machinelearning, deep learning and big data) and these were later linked to existing theory. While rationalmodels in the theory assume that full information and an unlimited cognitive capacity is at hand, bounded rationality and the research results emphasize real world, realistic examples.Methodologically, the research used a qualitative system with semi-structured interviews that madeparticipants explain their experiences in a greater dept. The sample included a mixture of roles likesoftware developers, consultants and business owners, financial and operational staff, an AIengineer and a designer from three different countries. The findings suggest that AI, on anoperational level, should be used as a supplement to humans in the early stages of decision-making.This pointed to a hybrid model being the most effective which is the AI-augmented boundedrationality. This model uses AI to reduce information and time constraints but does not replace thehuman judgement made at the end of the decision-making process. Participants from the studyhighlighted the current limitations of artificial intelligence which range from struggling with largedatasets and numerical errors to lacking deep contextual understanding. Ethical concerns were alsoraised, including fears about losing our skills and getting smaller improvements because of over-reliability. The AI tool choice was also examined, pointing out that different fields benefit fromdifferent tools. The main theoretical contribution of the study is the AI-augmented boundedrationality which supports the idea of not replacing but complimenting human judgement.
