Absztrakt (kivonat)
This thesis explores the relationship between cultural diversity, communication, and collaboration within multinational supply-chain environments, with a particular focus on hybrid workplaces in Hungary and Europe. As globalization accelerates and supply-chain processes become increasingly interconnected, understanding how professionals interpret and manage cultural differences has become essential for effective teamwork and leadership. The research investigates how intercultural awareness shapes daily communication and cooperation, and what strategies can support more effective cross-cultural collaboration. The study is grounded in established intercultural communication theories, including Hofstede’s cultural dimensions, Hall’s high–low context framework, and contemporary models such as Cultural Intelligence (CQ) by Earley and Ang and Deardorff’s process model of intercultural competence. Using a qualitative research design, nine professionals working in multicultural supply-chain roles were interviewed through semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis of the data revealed recurring patterns in communication behaviors, adaptation strategies, trust-building, and learning processes. Findings indicate that cultural expectations around hierarchy, directness, consensus, and time orientation significantly influence workplace communication, particularly in hybrid and digital settings. Participants emphasized that the development of intercultural competence emerges through experience, reflection, and daily interaction rather than formal training alone. Trust was shown to be central in avoiding misunderstandings and managing conflict, especially in virtual collaboration. The results align with classical models while highlighting the need for greater flexibility and contextual sensitivity in modern global operations. Practically, the study suggests that multinational organizations should foster environments that support open communication, psychological safety, and continuous learning. Leadership plays a critical role in modeling empathy, transparency, and inclusivity. Although the research offers meaningful insights, its small, Europe-centered sample limits broad generalization. Future studies could incorporate larger, cross-regional samples and examine the evolving role of digital tools and AI in intercultural collaboration. Overall, this thesis demonstrates that intercultural awareness is not simply a professional asset but a necessary capability for sustainable teamwork in global supply chains. When approached with curiosity, patience, and adaptability, cultural diversity becomes a source of creativity, innovation, and stronger cooperation.
