Absztrakt (kivonat)
While working on my thesis, I engaged in a really complex and currently relevant topic. During the research, I had the opportunity to examine the relationship between wellness activities and mental health and to understand how practices such as meditation, yoga, and Pilates contribute to individuals’ overall well-being and how these help people in managing common mental health issues like stress, anxiety, or depression. As for the survey, 131 people filled out my questionnaire, which provided a wide range of valuable responses. In addition to the fact that these results supported the findings of numerous scientific research that proved the beneficial effects of mediation, yoga, and Pilates, the questionnaire, also provided valuable insights into the perspectives of a portion of the Hungarian population on the topic of wellness, especially regarding wellness-habits, motivations and respondents’ engagement in wellness tourism. The most inspiring finding for me was the fact that the majority of respondents truly believe in the effectiveness of wellness practices on mental well-being. In my opinion, it would be worthwhile to conduct further research in the future, especially using qualitative methods like interviews to gain more insights into personal experiences and motivations. Furthermore, future studies should focus on the long-term beneficial effects of wellness practices on psychological well-being, conducting follow-up research in this topic. I also consider important that future studies examine a larger sample of Hungarian residents, involving participants from different social backgrounds. In summary, wellness is becoming an increasingly popular topic these days. I am convinced, this is not a coincidence, or just a trend that people in more developed regions indulge in. It has been proven that wellness activities carry numerous positive effects that contribute to our mental well-being if we are mindful about our overall health and apply these practices previously discussed. These facts are not only supported by previous research findings presented above but also by my personal experiences and that of my immediate environment. I have personally experienced many times, how much a 10 minute yoga session, meditation, or even just a light walk could help immediately after a stressful day or during difficult periods. However, these techniques are not merely useful as one-time rapid solutions. The more these practices become integrated into our daily lives and the more we can form them into habits, the more effective they will be. In the long-term, we will be able to enjoy the fruits of our previous efforts, resulting in a more fulfilling, happier, and balanced life.
