Absztrakt (kivonat)

This thesis explores how international student mobility shapes academic tourism in Hungary, focusing on the experiences of students in programs like Erasmus+ and Stipendium Hungaricum. Using surveys and interviews, the study finds that students are highly mobile, motivated by Hungary’s central location, affordability, and cultural opportunities. Their travel behaviors extend across Hungary and Europe, and most act as informal tourism ambassadors by hosting and guiding visiting family and friends-many of whom would not have visited otherwise. These patterns generate significant direct and indirect tourism benefits, especially in culture, gastronomy, and wellness sectors. However, students face persistent challenges with language barriers, bureaucracy, and integration, often relying on peer networks for support. The findings highlight opportunities for Hungarian stakeholders to better integrate academic mobility with tourism development, expand English-language resources, and support student-driven tourism. Ultimately, international students not only enrich higher education but also contribute to sustainable tourism growth and long-term international connections for Hungary.
