This dissertation investigates how Chinese infrastructure investments have influenced Brazil and Chile's voting patterns in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), specifically examining alignment with US versus Chinese positions on key resolutions. The research focuses on three critical sectors where China has made substantial investments: ports, telecommunications, and renewable energy infrastructure.The study will employ a rigorous secondary data analysis methodology using three primary datasets:1. UN Digital Library records of UNGA voting patterns (2013-2023)2. China Global Investment Tracker database of Chinese infrastructure investments3. UNComtradedata on bilateral trade flowsThe research will analyse voting convergence on resolutions where US and Chinese positions diverged, particularly on issues of digital sovereignty, maritime rights, and environmental governance. These areas directly intersect with Chinese infrastructure investments in both countries.
