This essay examines the multifaceted life and leadership of Mao Zedong, an exceptional figure in modern Chinese history. Through a detailed exploration—of Mao's early influences, major policy initiatives and its impacts—it aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of his role in shaping 20th-century China. Divided into thematic sections, the essay highlights critical elements in Mao’s leadership, emphasizing their econimic and social impacts. The analysis begins with an overview of Mao’s formative years and the ideologies that guided his ascent to power within the Chinese Communist Party. This foundational discussion sets the stage for examining two of his most transformative—and controversial—campaigns: the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution. By analyzing these movements, the essay delves into their origins, goals, and consequences. A comperative analysis follows to highlight some vital difference between the two campaign, showing the how the mentality and leadership attitude of Mao evolved over the years. Finally, the essay provides a final conclusion about the two major initiatives and about the ideology behind it.
