Absztrakt (kivonat)

The paper examines the connection between wealth and happiness, raising the question of whether money can truly buy happiness or if other elements are necessary for true life satisfaction. Although an increasing amount of research indicates that greater income does not always associate with greater happiness or life satisfaction, traditional economic indicators like GDP and income growth have long been considered primary measures of societal progress. As a result, a new economic theory known as the economics of happiness has emerged, focusing on the significance of subjective well-being along with the emotional and social aspects of life. The research examines at how happiness and quality of life are measured, both subjectively and objectively, and how these metrics vary over time and in accordance with social, economic, and environmental influences. A comparative study of Croatia and Hungary is given particular focus, with an emphasis on the cultural and demographic distinctions that influence how happiness is seen. Along with addressing current issues like inequality, mental health, and environmental sustainability, the study emphasizes the need for new, deeper frameworks for measuring the improvement of society.
