ETHIOPIA’S DIPLOMACY IN ITS POST-OCCUPATION, AND AFRICAN ANTI-COLONIAL PERIOD.This research paper looks at several important questions to understand Ethiopia's diplomacy after its occupation and its role in Africa's fight against colonialism. The main questions examined include: How did Ethiopia’s resistance to Italian occupation influence its diplomatic strategies and impact on Pan-Africanism? How did cultural diplomacy help promote pan-Africanism after Ethiopia's liberation? The paper also explored how the socialist policies of the Derg regime and the Cold War affected Ethiopia's recovery and foreign relations. Lastly, it investigated how Ethiopia’s diplomatic actions contributed to the creation and functioning of important pan-African organizations like the Organization of African Unity (OAU).To answer these questions, the paper used a mixed-methods approach. It included historical analysis to study key events and important figures in Ethiopia’s diplomatic history. Cultural analysis was used to understand how cultural diplomacy helped Ethiopia build international relationships. The research also involved document analysis, looking at primary and secondary sources such as treaties, speeches, and historical records. This thorough approach provided a clear picture of Ethiopia’s diplomatic strategies, its leadership in the Pan-African movement, and its relationships with both Western and Soviet powers during the Cold War.The research results show that Ethiopia’s history of overcoming foreign domination, particularly its victory in the Battle of Adwa in 1896, greatly influenced its diplomatic strategies after the occupation. Under Emperor Haile Selassie, Ethiopia became a symbol of African independence, using cultural diplomacy to gain support against colonialism. Ethiopia's role in establishing the OAU in 1963 highlights its commitment to African unity, even though the organization faced challenges related to human rights and sustainable development. The Derg dictatorship embraced socialism after this. And so, new alliances sprang from this change during the Cold War. Overall, the results indicate that Ethiopia has played a significant role in the Pan-African movement. It has influenced Africa's efforts to remain resilient and united in the face of outside forces. In order to improve its diplomatic position in Africa's future, it must be inclusive and protect human rights, as demonstrated by the lessons learned from its past and the difficulties it faces now.
