Absztrakt (kivonat)

This thesis explores the fast-moving world of warehouse automation and its impact on the workforce. It examines the many advancements in the world of automation and their impact on efficiency, workforce, and ethical challenges. With a combination of literature review, survey data and an interview with a warehouse manager this thesis shows the many ways automation improves warehousing, such as increased speed, accuracy and lower energy consumption. However, the study explores the less talked about side of automation, its challenges in regards to the workforce, its impact on job displacement, employee well-being, privacy concerns, and the many psychological effects these technologies have on the workers. The research shows the difference in the views on automation of workers of traditional and automated warehouses, traditional employees are concerned about their job security and how they will adapt to this new scene, while workers already working in this new environment of course reported less physical strain with the machines taking over most of the physical workload, but they complained about higher stress levels. The findings show that there is a need for a better more balanced implementation of automation, which can be achieved by providing retraining programs, maintaining transparency towards employees, and listening and properly acting upon employee input. The conclusion of the thesis is that achieving harmony between efficiency and a humane workplace is essential for automated workhouses to be sustainable in the long run.
