Absztrakt (kivonat)

The wine industry is a super delicate one that has gone through developments for centuries and was shaped by cultural, economic, and technological innovations. This thesis explores the critical interplay of trade policies, globalisation, and consolidation and shows how these forces have transformed the industry on a global scale and introduces their impact on small wineries. By examining trade agreements, the influence of globalisation on production and marketing strategies, and the trends in industry consolidation, the research highlights some opportunities and challenges that traditional Old World and emerging New World wine regions are facing. The study dives deep into the European Union’s policies, including the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the European Green Deal, to show their role in sustainability and market dynamics. With the analysis of the Hungarian wine market from 2008 to 2022, the thesis presents a closer example of the global shifts, the decline of state ownership, the rise of private capital investment, and the increased role of technological innovations. The findings gives an idea and a small picture about how globalisation opens new markets but also gives challenges due to compliance costs that affects smaller producers more and how the emerges of large producers are destroying them. The paper concludes by possibilities for improvement for small wineries and with an overall picture of the wine industry itself.
