Absztrakt (kivonat)
COVID-19 altered the business world to its core. Before the pandemic, companies mostly preferred and offered in-office working days. When the pandemic shook the entire world, businesses had no other chance than to figure out a way, in which they could continue their operations and try to lose the less possible amount of money. Working from a place other than a regular office started its history back in the Middle Ages, but this was the point of time when remote work made its real appearance to our everyday lives. The urgent shift from in-office work to remote work created multiple different issues regarding business life, but also personal life. Harder communication with colleagues, reduced team cohesion, the feeling of isolation and collapsing work-life balance are a couple of the most experienced problems emerged due to home office.Next to these not so favourable outcomes, there are also a lot of positive effects of the transition. Reduced commuting time and stress, increased productivity, and reduced number of distractions and illnesses belong to the pool of positive outcomes.Work-life balance has received more attention in the last couple of years due to the blurring border between work and personal life. Employers and employees experience different sides of this topic. As employees, we would like to feel healthy both mentally and physically. To achieve this balance, employees managed to find various ways to help their workers. By providing professional help, and different work-life balance related programmes for employees, organizations make a solid base for receiving 100% from their workers in terms of performance.Different generations have different lifestyles and also different requirements and expectations when it comes to work. Generation X, Y and Z have their own characteristics which highly influence their attitude towards remote work and work-life balance. In my research, I focused on these three generational groups and tried to derive some conclusions regarding their opinions on three main questions: preference and necessity of remote work, productivity from home and impact of remote work on their personal life.I delivered my research via an online questionnaire which allowed me to work with the opinions of multiple people at the same time.My hypothesis was that Generation Z and Y are more resilient towards remote work, which involves the fact that they are more likely to choose home office over in-office hours and they are handling work-life balance with consciousness and care. The other part of this hypothesis is that Generation X is having a harder time shifting between working styles and therefore they rather work from the office, just like before COVID-19. Their work-life balance might be challenged by the possibly increased overtime hours due to home office possibilities. After carrying out my research, I can say that my hypotheses seem to be correct about the attitudes of different generations. Generation Z and Y are more open-minded towards remote work and work-life balance, while Generation X is harder to drive away from the usual.
