Absztrakt (kivonat)
In my research, I have chosen to provide a comprehensive historical perspective on knowledge destabilization since the 19th century. The focus of the study is an examination of the progressive evolution of communication technologies in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries. Central to this investigation is the assessment of the extent to which these technological advancements have facilitated or not the stabilization of knowledge. My desire to research the subject comes from my interest in media history and the contemporary relevance of the topic, as knowledge destabilization remains a persistent concern in the present day. By delving deeper into media history, we can analyze historical contexts, enabling us to understand the challenges and opportunities that new communication technologies offer to society in several spheres. It also allows us to draw parallels between the past and the present, and gives us guidance on making informed “predictions” for the future.Following the advent of the printing press, increased access to information took place, driven by the fact that printed materials were more affordable and accessible. This transformative development challenged the authority of traditional gatekeepers such as religious and political institutions. The dissemination of diverse perspectives and ideas played a crucial role in diminishing centralized control, a phenomenon particularly evident during the Enlightenment and the Protestant Reformation.Although the printing press was a crucial development, the true rise of modern mass communication is often associated with the expansion of newspapers and the telegraph in the 19th century. The 20th century brought further innovations, such as radio, television, and eventually the Internet, contributing to the development of complex and interconnected mass communication systems. While contemporary discourse frequently centers on the notion of knowledge disruption as a modern phenomenon, characterized by challenges such as misinformation and fake news, its origins can be traced back to the advent of the printed book. One of the primary objectives of my research is to present examples that debunk this myth and offer insights into how different historical contexts and events dealt with paradigm shifts in knowledge.
