Absztrakt (kivonat)
Sustainable tourism, particularly ecotourism, has received significant attention as a means to address the adverse environmental impacts of tourism, save cultural heritage, and advance global social and economic equity. An intriguing case study that examines the incorporation of ecotourism principles into destination development may be observed in the Caucasus region, renowned for its distinctive cultural history and breathtaking landscapes. However, challenges like as rapid urbanization, inadequate regulatory frameworks, and the dominance of profit-oriented tourism models hinder the region's potential. The paper aims to discover community involvement initiatives and assess their effectiveness in promoting local empowerment, environmental preservation, and socio-economic development in the Caucasus area. Thesis contributes to the practical and theoretical understanding of sustainable tourism development by providing insights and proposals for boosting ecotourism in the Caucasus and other regions. Thesis examines the obstacles preventing the Caucasus area from becoming a more environmentally sustainable and attractive destination for ecotourism. The research also examines ecotourism policy, regulation, and strategic best practices from throughout the world to identify effective approaches in the Caucasus region. Methodology includes primary research consisting of a questionnaire and an interview and secondary research focuses on extensive literature review.
