Absztrakt (kivonat)

Rapid technological developments, aspirations to reduce expenditures, evolving employee expectations and even unpredictable global events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic can all be such factors that have a contributing effect on the reimagining and modernizing of the traditional workplaces. The following thesis with the title of “Shaping the future of workplaces: A comprehensive analysis of Henkel Hungary Ltd.'s office relocation and hybrid work model implementation” aims to analyse the changes that were introduced in the way how office work is done, through the lenses of Henkel Hungary Ltd. The thesis builds on a mixed research method, which consists of an online survey that is distributed amongst 367 employees of Henkel Hungary Ltd., who are working at the office in Budapest and an interview, which is conducted with the Chief Executive Officer of the company. Using the received quantitative and qualitative data, that were provided by my interviewee and the 98 questionnaire respondents, the following thesis aims to analyse what changes the office relocation and hybrid work implementation have brought into the work life of the employees of Henkel Hungary Ltd and to see what kind of challenges needed to be faced during the office relocation project, while also delving into its main reasons. Furthermore, it also aims to paint a clear picture regarding the preferences of the employees of the company, in connection with the office building and the hybrid work model, while mentioning the perceived benefits and disadvantages of working in an open office and in a hybrid work arrangement. Nonetheless, the research also delves into the areas of the new office, which would need some further refinement, according to opinion of the surveyed employees. In the frames of this study the employees mentioned the design and aesthetics of the open office as the biggest advantage of this office plan, while they find the sound of their colleagues the most disturbing factor regarding this office setting. Furthermore, the employees perceive the benefits of the flexible working hours to the most, while working in a hybrid model, and they reported that the feeling of being isolated, lonely is the biggest disadvantage for them regarding this work arrangement. The study was also able to paint a picture regarding the preferences of the Henkel Hungary Ltd. employees, when it comes to working in hybrid work model, according to which the employees prefer to WFH on Mondays and Fridays. Furthermore, all 98 surveyed employees reported that their ideal work week includes at least one home office occasion, which means that the employees value the possibility to WFH. Moreover, in the frames of my research I was also able to discover significant differences between the opinions of the analysed age groups, and genders. According to which, for example, the female employees feel more isolated and lonelier, while WFH, while the younger generations value the networking possibilities offered by the open office plan and the flexible working hours provided by the hybrid work model, to a higher extent than their older colleagues. Furthermore, the respondents unanimously mentioned that the temperature regulation should be refined in the new office building, but they would also highly value better parking possibilities near the office.
