Absztrakt (kivonat)

The aim of this study is to compare three leadership styles (Transformational, Transactional and Laissez-faire) and employees’ motivation, adaptability and personality in relation to them. I consider a quantitative research to be the most efficient to use in the research, as it gives numerical data, that can be compared easily to find possible relations. Also, by gathering sufficient amount of responses, I can generalize the results for the wider population and have conclusions about the current state of the measured field. The structure of the thesis consists of three main parts. In the first part, the literature review has the purpose to present variations of definitions of the most important factors of this research. Then, by examining the evolvement of the concept of leadership, I try to have an overview on the historical aspect and the stages of how the theories changed. After that, all the relevant styles and theories are investigated regarding leadership and the three factors (motivation, adaptability and personality). As the last element of my literature review, I examine several existing studies to have a better look on what has been done in the topic so far. The second part is about my survey, how I prepared it and what was the purpose behind every question. Also, by making hypotheses, I point out the main goals of the research. In the results section, I present the tables, correlations and I give an answer for all of my previously stated hypotheses. The third part of this thesis is about drawing the conclusions, comparing the theories with my findings and giving implications for practitioners and researchers.Examining three different styles and their influence on three different factors made the composition and editing of the questionnaire difficult. My aim was to compare the styles by making similar level of statements in order to get the exact priorities of respondents.I used quantitative research in a form of an online questionnaire and I was able to gather 75 responses to work with in a relatively short time. I consider it a sufficient amount of data and I was able to get an answer for my research question. Regarding demographics, I had enough participants in all the criteria that I made. The distribution of participants regarding gender, age groups and tenure were suitable. In case of personality traits, there were some differences, which could be solved by using a larger sample. The findings suggest that H1 – “There is a strong correlation between preferred leadership style and employee motivation” is rejected. H2 – “There is no strong correlation between preferred leadership style and employee adaptability” is accepted. H3 – “There is no strong correlation between preferred leadership style and employee personality” is accepted. The results show that, regarding all the three research factors, employees have no exact preference, but priorities of different approaches. Also, the levels of different personality traits had no influence at the preferred leadership style in case of the investigation of Transformational, Transactional and Laissez-faire leadership styles.
