Absztrakt (kivonat)

This thesis is written with the explicit purpose of exploring enterprise resource management and resource optimization in the context of Industry 4.0, as the Fourth Industrial Revolution has significantly and irrevocably altered the scene of digital and physical asset management. Shifting consumption patterns, mounting negative environmental and ecological externalities and dwindling non-renewable raw materials have necessitated a reexamination and reevaluation of resource management on every economic level. Against this backdrop, Industry 4.0 has opened up new possibilities in technological and procedural optimization strategies, as well as introducing dramatic efficiency increases for extant methodologies, creating critical synergies upon which enterprise resource optimization strategies can and should be built. In order to analyze this topic in sufficient depth, I have conducted an extensive overview of secondary scientific literary sources, examining the costs and benefits of promising technologies, such as integrated IoT networks, cloud-based ERP systems, 6G communications networks, artificial intelligence and more. In addition, I have also examined the role of corporate governance and policymaking in sustainable enterprise resource management and highlighted some of the myriad ways in which resource optimization methods may interact, creating a synergistic foundation for efficient business processes. As such, I have attempted to maintain a holistic approach to enterprise resource management, examining how interdepartmental fragmentation may impact the implementation of an enterprise-wide optimization strategy. In order to test the real-life applicability of my theoretical framework, generate data that is currently difficult to obtain, as well as address an identified research gap in synergistic asset management, I have conducted primary interviews with corporate sources in innovation-driven industries. Through the cross-sectional examination of the Hungarian business landscape, I have established the primary drivers of resource optimization, found functional examples of procedural and technological resource optimization solutions, explored the role of sustainability in resource optimization and examined how synergistic resource management is implemented in practice on both enterprise and departmental levels. My research has not only yielded insights into how successful resource optimization strategy implementation occurs in practice but also revealed some costly pitfalls and challenges that businesses should remain cognizant of and attempt to avoid. With the creation of this document, I am hoping to contribute additional insights and value to the field of enterprise resource management in international business development.
