Absztrakt (kivonat)

This research has been focused on Hungary as a host country for Mexican immigrants. This thesis has provided an overview of those economic and social factors. Firstly, I indagated into migration in a broader context commenting on migration trends that are evolving constantly based on changes in the global economy and policy barriers. The research offers light on the complex mechanisms that underpin human movement in the modern world. The study then introduces Mexican migration, including the current situation with their neighbouring countries. Afterwards, I am exploring the migration situation of Mexicans in Hungary considering the push and pull factors that are playing a role when deciding to move to another country. Later, it is disclosed that while Mexico's economic growth and innovation in various industries have contributed to its gradual transformation, migration keeps persisting due to the pursuit of better opportunities, economic improvement, and safety. Migration for individuals is limited by the cost of moving including financial costs as expenses for transportation, a potential unemployment timeframe and personal costs as leaving friends and family behind, not forgetting language barrier and cultural differences in some cases. Mexico and Hungary are presented with their main geographical, demographic, and structural characteristics while providing the most recent data on Mexican residents in Hungary. Subsequently, a distinction between the macro and micro levels of economic and social factors was explored. Based on my findings Mexico and Hungary balance the opportunities and challenges, that migration brings to their countries, recognizing the profound economic and social changes that it involves. Understanding economic aspects such as income, taxation, and employment is essential in comprehending the underlying motivations for Mexican migration to Hungary. Mexicans' desire to relocate to Hungary is influenced by several societal issues that affect their quality of life. This study compares personal security, work-life balance, healthcare, housing, education, language requirements and discrimination among countries from a broader perspective showing the contrasts between Mexico and Hungary as prospective migration destinations. Additionally to the literature review, the research surveyed to collect data allowing me to gather quantitative and qualitative data. Efforts were made to ensure a representative sample of Mexicans living in Hungary, including, age, gender, education level, and length of residence in Hungary among others, at the same time it aimed to investigate a comprehensive perspective of those social and economic factors including income, employment status, educational background, cultural integration, discrimination experiences, and more. The survey allowed an in-depth exploration including both multiple-choice questions and open-ended questions, where respondents had the opportunity to provide detailed narratives of their experiences, challenges, and aspirations, contributing valuable qualitative insights. The information is complemented with interviews with Mexicans residing in Hungary providing a useful insight into their experiences, challenges, and recommendations. These individuals stress the impact of the language barrier, the different levels of safety and the challenges and importance of the cultural integration from the migration perspective. These voices help in understanding the multifaceted experiences of Mexican migrants in Hungary.
