This master's thesis investigates the perceptions of men and women regarding gender discrimination and casual sexism in the Indian hospitality industry. The research aims to explore differences in viewpoints between men and women, employing a mixed methods approach with an explanatory sequential research design. The sample consists of students, teachers, and employees from universities and hotels in various cities in North India. Data collection involves surveys and in-depth interviews, while data analysis includes descriptive and inferential statistics for quantitative research and thematic analysis using coding for qualitative research. The key findings reveal the prevalence of casual sexism and gender discrimination rooted in cultural and societal stereotypes, normalized behaviors, and a lack of awareness about laws and policies addressing these issues. The impact of the research findings on the industry is significant. The study generates awareness about the challenges faced by women in the hospitality sector and identifies reasons for barriers in their career progression. The insights provided serve as a foundation for further research and initiatives aimed at combating social problems related to gender inequalities. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the creation of a more inclusive work environment for women in the Indian hospitality industry.
