<p dir="ltr" style="text-align:left;"></p><p>The Hedge Fund industry has always had an aura of mystique around it. Few people know about these funds and their crucial role in the financial markets. They are the ultimate market makers, Alpha generators, and liquidity providers in the capitalist economy's history. The development of these funds affects not only the asset management industry but everyone around the world.</p> <p>This study aims to understand the Hedge Fund industry and acquire further insights into where it’s now and where it’s headed in the future. The research aimed to analyze the industry structure, compensation fees, and contributions to the development of the financial markets. Henceforth, the research discusses at length the trend of ESG considerations as it’s now widely believed to be the future of the industry. The researcher will begin by reviewing academic books, journals, newspaper articles, and corporate business reports written by industry specialists. The research is a qualitative study encompassing three interviews with a Hedge Fund manager and two Bank CEOs in an attempt to evaluate the current situation of the industry, the extent of influence the ESG considerations have had on it, and explore the different possible ways of integrating these considerations in the investment selection process in the industry. The secondary purpose of the study is to present the contemporary challenges faced by the industry in this decade.</p> <p>The interviews conducted and the published academic papers helped to investigate the research goals, it revealed that the role of Hedge Funds in the past was a market stabilizing force by providing liquidity, advising boards in difficult financial situations “Activists” and short-selling underperforming enterprises. However, it was also discovered during the research that the industry is undergoing a major transformation and adaptation period into ESG based investing with a focus on the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI).</p><br><p></p>
