<p dir="ltr" style="text-align:left;"></p><p align="center"><b>A</b><b>bstract</b><b></b></p><p>Over the previous four decades&nbsp;and more of reform and opening-up, China has embraced an open economy, which expanded from special economic zones to the coastal, riverside, border, and inland areas, and was reinforced by China’s accession to the World Trade Organization. In the context of the Belt and Road national strategy and the new normal of foreign trade development, the development of China’s trade with the Asia-Pacific region and the EU region faces both severe challenges and new opportunities. The study of the current situation and prospects of China’s trade with these two regions and the quantification of the export potential of China and these two regions can contribute to a statistical analysis of the development space of China’s export trade in the future. It has substantial practical value and significance for policy guidance for providing more valuable suggestions for promoting the trade development between China and the Asia-Pacific region, China and the EU region, as well as the effective implementation of the Belt and Road strategy.</p><p>&nbsp;<span style="font-size:1rem;">This paper creates regression equations based on the trade gravity model and draws the following conclusions: First, with the continuous implementation of China’s Belt and Road Initiative, there is a significant difference in its impact on the Asia-Pacific region and the EU region in terms of China’s commodity export trade. In general, the effect on the Asia-Pacific region is greater than that on the EU region in terms of distance, location (landlocked or not), and border status, but the former is greater than the latter in terms of GDP and population. In terms of exchange rates, there is little difference between the two regions. Secondly, in view of various influencing factors, China still needs to focus on economic advancement. Due to the decline in labor force caused by the aging population structure in recent years, China’s economic growth has slowed down to some extent. The decrease in labor force will increase production costs and lead to a gradual decline of the original competitive advantage, hindering the export of commodities accordingly. Third, as for the international environment, the overall economy of the EU is depressed, and some countries have even witnessed economic recession.
