<p dir="ltr" style="text-align:left;"></p><p>This paper examines the institutional economics perspective and applies it to three different systems in Eastern Asia: the keiretsu in Japan, the chaebol in South Korea, and guanxi in China. The perspective helps to understand how institutional economics shape and are shaped by business practices. The keiretsu is a network of interdependent companies in Japan that has been instrumental in its economic development but criticized for being insular. The chaebol in South Korea has dominated the economy but has been criticized for lack of transparency and crowding out smaller businesses. Guanxi in China is a system of personal connections and relationships that is important for business but can create corruption and an uneven playing field. The aim of this research is to understand the role of these institutions and how it is possible for them to promote transparency, fairness, and competition in these economies.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Keywords: Asian Capitalism; Institutional Economics; Chaebols; Guanxi; Keiretsu. &nbsp;</p><br><p></p>
