Notmany have heard of the used-software market. It really is a niche market, whichcame to existence in the 21st century in Europe. It was not even completelylegal from the beginning, as one of the biggest corporations in the techsector, Oracle filed a lawsuit against one of the operating companies in themarket. After long trials, the European Court of Justice decided in 2013 thatit was legal to resell software, which made a boom to the market, with newparticipants entering.Despitebeing a niche market, the used-software market has gained some attention inrecent years due to its potential to provide more cost-effective solution forbusinesses and individuals. The market offers a range of software products fromoperating systems to productivity software and even security and engineeringsoftware.Thecompany Softtrader's goal has been competing with others in the market, whichthey have been successful with thus far, with steadily hiring more employeesevery year. Softtrader’s mission is also to offer customers reliable andaffordable software licenses. While the office is being in the heart ofNijmegen in the Netherlands, it is an internationally operating company. It hastheir website available in an increasing number of languages, as well as it hascustomers spread across Europe.Asthe market is potentially shifting more towards subscription-based models,companies might become more fragile. Thus, Softtrader could be impacted heavilyif they do not solidify their position. Changing demands in a niche marketmakes it difficult to operate, but Softtrader must tackle these challenges to notcollapse under the changing market. This is where the goal of this graduationassignment resides.The goal of thisreport will investigate these problems. Firstly, the objective of thisgraduation thesis will be fully explained, to create a research question.Secondly, in the exploration part, analysis of the current market and companysituation will be covered with theoretical findings. This will contribute tothe proposed solution. Then, the methodology and results stages will becompared to the solution, to analyse its effectiveness and success. Lastly, aconclusion will be written, followed by recommendations.
