<p dir="ltr" style="text-align:left;">SWIFT is a system that enables financial institutions worldwide to communicate and transfer funds securely and efficiently. It is essential for businesses in the digital economy and plays a critical role in promoting international financial cooperation. Governments use financial sanctions as a tool of foreign policy to achieve specific objectives, and SWIFT is often used to enforce these sanctions. However, the use of SWIFT in financial sanctions has generated controversy, as it can harm innocent civilians and businesses in targeted countries. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of financial sanctions as a foreign policy tool, with a focus on the role of the SWIFT system in implementing and enforcing these sanctions. It will also examine the implications of financial sanctions for global interdependence and the functioning of the international financial system. The study will use case studies and a review of the literature to provide a detailed analysis of the costs and benefits of financial sanctions compared to other tools of foreign policy. It will also explore the potential of the SWIFT system in international relations and how Sovereign States respond to the rising participation of these technologies in international relations. The study will also discuss the collateral effect of SWIFT sanctions, which can lead to the development of alternative systems to avoid the monopoly of a single technology.<br></p>
