In the context of COVID-19, China's unemployment rate began to rise and many people lost their jobs. This paper will present and analyse China's employment protection policies at three levels - types, beneficiary groups and implementation areas - to provide a comprehensive understanding of the impact of China's employment protection policies on the Chinese job market during the special period of COVID-19. In addition, the paper examines the effects of the employment protection policies adopted by the government by analysing the extent of the rise in unemployment and the factors influencing it. The findings show that the Chinese government demonstrated a high level of resilience and decision-making ability during its response to the COVID-19 epidemic, and that the policies were implemented with good results. These research findings can help provide references and lessons for the government to formulate more effective policies, and also provide useful experiences and insights for other countries and regions in responding to similar epidemics.
