Absztrakt (kivonat)

The purpose of this paper is to examine the development of China's logistics industry andChina's logistics industry participation in global value chains. As with the methodology applied in this paper, we adopt the KPWW decomposition methodin order to construct the global index of value chain participation, select data from the TIVAdatabase from 2005 to 2018, and compute the global participation of China's logistics industryin the value chain. Then we compare it with the data of trade in value-added exports of thelogistics industry of typical representative countries in the OECD (the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Italy) and the data of trade in value-added exports ofChina's logistics industry, data from China's logistics industry, and data on China's foreignvalue added. We calculate an index of GVC participation in the logistics industry in Chinaand in typical OECD countries and analyse the pattern of these indicators. In the end, I find that the participation rate of GVCs in China's logistics industry has generallymaintained an upward trend from 2005 to 2018. Presumably reflecting China's greaterparticipation in global value chains over the period of analysis. The growing trend in logisticsindustry participation in global value chains is a welcome development since it indicates thatChina is increasingly involved with higher value-added services in global value chains andnot just with lower value-added assembly or manufacturing activities. There is no directrelationship between the size of the national logistics industry's GVC participation index andthe country's overall national power. By accelerating the transformation and development ofthe logistics industry, vigorously developing China's port shipping business, improving thestructure of China's trade imports and exports, and increasing the number of road transportvehicles, China's logistics industry in the global value chain, and internationalcompetitiveness will be enhanced in an effective manner.
