Absztrakt (kivonat)

This empirical research was conducted to try and measure the touristic utilization of the Danube in the following four capitals: Budapest, Bratislava, Belgrade, and Vienna. For the measurements, unique indicators have been created, which will take into consideration the overall touristic attractiveness of the capital and the number and quality of the facilities that are related to tourism. Site visits were realized to collect reliable and measurable statistical data. This previously mentioned methodology will be the primary data collection method, which is observation. Using this unobstructive method based on predetermined sections of the riverbank area of the observed capital to collect numerical data not only eliminates the personal impressions of the researcher but also allows the collection of a more reliable and up-to-date dataset. The scarcity of the available literature on the topic also suggests an alternative approach. The acquired data will help to create a comparison ranking between the four observed capital, and then the evaluation of the results will be issued. The main objective of this research is to assess to the current situation in Budapest, make a comparative analysis, and then evaluate the touristic utilization of the Danube River in Budapest based on the findings. As every river is different in its size, function, and utilization, the comparison will be made with the other 3 Danube capitals namely Vienna, Bratislava, and Belgrade, as the most accurate assessment can only be made if the capitals had access to the same river.River tourism in Budapest is a complex topic with many different aspects and angles to it, these questions will serve as guidelines during the investigation:What is the performance of Budapest in terms of touristic utilization of the Danube, compared to Vienna, Bratislava, and Belgrade How could river tourism recover after the pandemic How could Budapest repurpose sections in the banks of the Danube to better suit the increasing touristic demand The analysis of the collected data will allow to formulate a detailed diagnosis for river-related tourism, show the status of the Danube’s touristic utilization in Budapest and compare it to Vienna, Bratislava, and Belgrade, and offer suggestions based on already existing solutions. As the primary results will be based on self-made equations, the risk of inaccurate representation is apparent, which suggests that the results serve only as an indicator.
