With the differenttypes of crises that the world was suffering from, management of a destinationbecomes more difficult than before, especially to develop the destinationimage. Many destinations are trying different ways to market theirdestinations, and one of those is the film industry. Film travel is considereda new fashion in visiting Morocco, and Essaouira is an attractive andsustainable destination. Motivating tourists to follow up the trend of travelwith the film, to solve the essence of the issue, the DMO should develop a newsystem in collaboration with stakeholders to find a good solution by using newways of marketing, including sustainable projects, and taking care of the tourists’perspectives.Severalstudies have confirmed the importance of film tourism in the destination image.The main objective of this study is to create a general process that can be usedfor any destination to make it an attractive and sustainable destination and todiscover the importance of the film industry as a new way to market adestination and develop its image. Essaouira is the destination chosen for thisstudy. Different research methods were used, an offline and online questionnairewith locals about their perspectives, and an online survey with tourists aboutthe city on the spot and online to reach more international tourists to knowtheir perspectives about the Essaouira film destination and the travel decision-makingprocess. To better understand the answers a focus group interview was made withthe tourism delegates of the destination, giving an idea about tourism in thecity and how it is promoted.Researchfindings indicate that film tourism is a very important tool nowadays topromote a destination and will be very helpful to use it in the case ofEssaouira. It is found that a lot of people got inspired by movies to travel,and in the case of this city, it is shown that film tourism along with sustainabletourism could improve the destination's reputationand affect the tourism sector positively. The research reflects that making a destination more attractive shouldbe done by focusing on different aspects: destination image regardingpromotion, sustainability, and tourists’ perspectives. Essaouira, a destinationwith a focus on sustainable projects and cultural tourism, could attract morevisitors as a film tourism destination. Film tourism and sustainability couldbe altogether very successful keys in developing a destination image.
