Abstract

In recent years, the Angolan economy has grown rapidly, mostly due to the country's transformation into a culture of stability. During the period from 2012 to 2017, petroleum exports accounted for about 95% of total exports, and when coupled with diamond exports, the percentage approaches 99%. Thus, Angola is extremely dependent on and subject to swings in the price of Petroleum. Since 2014, the dramatic decrease in oil prices has substantially impacted the economy. In addition, oil extraction in Angola, like everywhere, provides scant opportunities for employment creation, value chain expansion, and commercial relationships with domestic firms.Diversifying exports is necessary for the country to reduce its reliance on oil prices, prepare for a post-oil economy, and create employment.Given that the European Union continues to play a significant role in global economic and political decision-making, a strengthened partnership between the parties might have a considerable influence. This study aims to contribute to the effort to diversify Angola's exports by providing a comprehensive analysis of Angola's exports and imports, with a focus on the potential diversification of a broad range of Angolan economic sectors and research into the bilateral economic relationship between the European Union and Angola.
