Absztrakt (kivonat)

In creating the twenty-first-century world order, the Indo-Pacific region has been, and is, the battleground in strategic implementation to compete for the influence of global power players such as Japan, the EU, the UK, Australia, and India. especially, the USA and China. The study, as a result, is set in The US's new Indo-Pacific strategy under Joe Biden Administration. ASEAN and Vietnam-one of the ikey actors in the Indo-Pacific strategy. Through the use of secondary and primary data, the new white house report on the Indo-Pacific strategy was published on February 2022. this study will find out the new setting in the Indo-Pacific strategy under President Joe Biden and compare it with the strategy of the previous presidencies as well as discover the challenges that the strategy of the United States will face in the incoming time, the study also focuses on analyzing the role of ASEAN and Vietnam in the Indo-Pacific strategy. The study found that Democrats and Republicans in the United States shared the same goal of seeing the Indo-Pacific as an important region in the U.S. strategy to curb the rise of China in the region. However, there were differences in implementation methods. During Donald Trump's presidency, he used the policy of isolationism, which means that “America first” and the United States can go alone in the FOIP strategy. However, Joe Biden embraces internationalism in the same way Obama did to renew the US’s close engagement with their key allies and partners in the region by establishing an economic framework IPEF. The study also explores the challenges hindering the success of this new Indo-Pacific strategy such as losing the trust of alliances and partners for the US, the Ukrainian war, and the economic and military rise of China. Moreover, the success of the Indo-Pacific strategy will largely depend on whether the general population of US citizens supports the Strategy.
