Absztrakt (kivonat)

As we all may know the first corona virus case was confirmed in December of 2019 in Wuhan which has the most inhabitants in Central China. Over months it spread quickly to most of the countries therefore a global pandemic began. The first confirmed case in Hungary was on the 4 th of March in 2020. The first confirmed case in the United States was in North Carolina on the March 1st in 2020 This pandemic not only had an enormous effect on the society’s behavior and mental health, but it affected the production, the trade, the transportation, etc.; in a simple way: the economy as a whole. The question we are studying is whether the pandemic had a bigger impact on North Carolina rather than Hungary. Therefore, our research is focused on the similarities and the differences in social and economic policy of the two states. In our project, we studied the relationship between Hungary and North Carolina (United States) in the themes of economy, politics, agriculture, healthcare and other various subjects. We can 37 state that similarities and differences occurred between the two countries during the pandemic, and it was confirmed to be a complex issue. In Hungary the economic effects involved, rise in unemployment, therefore decrease in employment overall, the causes are restricting catering services open-hours, banning dining-in, making quarantines compulsory. Shops were closed for a specific time of the day, and had serious limit in capacity of shoppers. Hungary’s healthcare was seriously challenged throughout these hectic times. Hospitals were forced to adapt as quickly as possible and doctors had no choice but to work immense number of hours. Fortunately, Hungary was given help by China, which turned out to be more of a burden on the long run. Regardless of having several victims, vaccines, making masks mandatory, successfully managed slow down the spread of the virus. Mental health issues have risen due to being unemployed and faced with an uncertainty, social skills. In North Carolina, the spread of the disease was rapid as well, thus schools, theatres, cinemas were ordered to close. Similarly, as in Hungary, online-learning, and home office surfaced, making people stay at home, resulted in increase in unemployment. By completely closing many shops, schools' protestors raised and used their voice to fight against the restrictions. Having earned more freedom, and The Black Live Matter Protest resulted in increase in covid 19 confirmed patients. The healthcare of this country was indeed helpful, churches and non-profit enterprises help the people in need. Vaccines were available first for the elderly, then people above 16 could get it as well. This was peculiar for Hungary as well. Moreover, similarly like in Hungary, due to online-learning, the mental health of people, especially student’s deteriorated, resulting increase in suicides in children under 17 years old. Hungary begun restricting slowly, then locking down the country, then giving little freedom to people but continuing restrictions. However, North Carolina closed down the state, which 38 created protests. Slowly, everything started to ease back into the normal in-person by dulling restrictions.
