Absztrakt (kivonat)

I have chosen the topic „Athletes’ brand- and income-building during and after sport career” because as an Olympian sailor I am deeply involved in the situation of performing in high-performance while not forgetting the ”afterlife”. In most sports, athletes don’t earn that much to be financially stable for the rest of their civil life or not receiving enough financial support to maintain campaign at all, and in all sports, they must deal with injuries at any time. To become a coach is always an option, but I wanted to reach this subject from the business side. I was always interested in commerce and marketing. Therefore, I chose Budapest Business School, but to work within the sport I am interested and appreciated in, first came to my mind between the benches of the university. When an athlete spends most of his time to be the best in his sport, there is no option to take a full-time job especially with sports that involves more travelling. An athlete averagely competes until the age of thirty. Even if he/she finishes a university meanwhile, he/she will be completely inexperienced when applying for a job. It usually means that his income will be the same as somebody in his early twenties. Of course, an Olympic participation in a Curriculum Vitae could be an advantage as well on the workplace, but the athlete’s high percentage doesn’t make until there. The reason I think I am capable of writing a useful essay about this topic because I have made steps towards my life after sailing. At the beginning of two thousand nineteen, a sportswear company mainly focusing on sailing named Code-Zero found me to be their ambassador. This meant that they provided me with clothes in exchange for posting and creating pictures for their further use. At the end of two thousand nineteen, I was quite experienced in their products because they sent me plenty during the year and I had asked them if they had a distributor in Hungary. As a young company, they were in lack of this position and relations in Hungary, so after further negotiations we agreed that I will fulfil this occupation. This is where the Vadnai Bros company was born with my younger brother who is walking on the same road both on the sport and on the study side. In the first two years it was mainly me running the company because he still had many classes in the university but from two thousand and twenty-two beginning, we are taking closely equal efforts in the success. In the past two years, more producers have trusted us to be their exclusive Hungarian distributors as Devoti, who is an Olympic class boat builder company and Optinew, who is an accessory provider in the most spread youth class named Optimist. We have also been added to be vendors for the most well-known block producer, Harken, and the highest quality sailing clothing factory, Musto. In my dissertation, I would like to find a path where athletes can reach extra income while analysing the Vadnai Bros company within the sailing market and find opportunities in other sports as well. The solution I am looking for is market based, I want to abstract from public jobs as working in the Hungarian Olympic Committee or at a federation. I would like to divide my research into two sides. One research towards the customer side and an interview with the athletes. (Both researches will be primer. One quantitative and one qualitative) In my thesis I would like to find answer for the following questions: On which aspects should an athlete focus when building a brand How to map out the sporting market How can an athlete reach extra income beside sporting career
