Background: The tourism sector in Jordan is considered one of the most important sectors that contribute to the national economy and contribute to increasing the country's domestic product. However, this sector was greatly affected by the repercussions of the Corona pandemic, which negatively affected this sector and the many benefits it provides to the local population. Aim: The present study sought to explore the public perceptions of the Jordanian local citizens about tourism in Jordan in a post-COVID transitional world and what opportunities this presents to future tourism development. Method: The study used the descriptive cross-sectional research design. A the researcher developed a questionnaire that explored the participants’ sociodemographic characteristics, opinions about what lacks tourism in Jordan and their perceptions about preferred types of tourism in Jordan and supporting tourism in Jordan. A convenient sample of 164 participants were recruited in this study. Results: The results of the study showed that facilities (79.3%) and overall cleanliness (71.3%) were the most aspects lacked in Jordanian tourism sites. It was found the leisure tourism (67.1%) was the most preferred type in Jordan. The results showed that 88.4% (n=145) of the enrolled participants thought that it is important to have instagrammable spots in Jordan in order to promote tourism in a better way. With regard to reasons of preferring international tourism, it was found that expensive domestic tourism (84.1%) and exploring different cultures (54%) were the most reported reasons. In addition, it was found that to make domestic tourism better, the participants reported that better prices and offers (75%) in addition to offering more attractive & entertainment (67.1%) were the most significant methods. Finally, it was found that education regarding sustainable tourism (71.3%) and supporting local economy (68.3%) were perceived as the most significant methods of making sustainable tourism in Jordan. Conclusion: The study concluded that there is a significant lack of basic services in Jordanian tourism sites, there is a need to support the tourism sector in Jordan throughout achieving sustainable tourism and supporting local communities in tourism sites and the need to promote Jordanian touristic sites abroad.
