In my thesis, I examine the development of tourism in Békéscsaba and its surroundings over the past ten years. The purpose of this research is to determine if there are any future opportunities for investment or tourism development in this region that could be made in the near future. Additionally, I am interested in analyzing past regional developments. In order for the reader to gain an understanding of the surroundings of Békéscsaba, I believe it is important to learn general information about the area. Consequently, the first chapter provides a general overview of the city of Békéscsaba and other nearby cities that may be important for tourism. Furthermore, it is important to gain an understanding of what types of tourism are available in the region, which is why the second chapter provides an overview. The reader can gain a general understanding of the types of tourism available in this chapter and, along with the following chapter, will gain an understanding of the types of attractions that can be found in the area. Detailed information is provided regarding local and nearby attractions. This thesis is primarily concerned with the attractions that have attracted the most tourists in recent years or are expected to attract tourists in the foreseeable future.My next step will be to analyze three larger-scale developments by interviewing two individuals who play a significant role in the development of tourism in Békéscsaba. Considering these developments were undeniably significant not only for this area, but for the entire region as a whole, the purpose of this chapter is to provide a better understanding of my topic selection as well as a comprehensive overview of the improvements.Next, I will evaluate future tourist developments that have been proposed. The reason for that is the understanding that the city of Békéscsaba has a lot of potentials to develop in the tourism sector in the future.Last but not least, I would like to provide my own suggestions for the development of tourism in the future not only in the city of Békéscsaba but in the surroundings as well. Obtaining a comprehensive picture of potential investment opportunities under this chapter would require further research, however, gaining a better understanding of the invented development ideas will be possible through my research.
