Absztrakt (kivonat)

In this thesis, you are about to read about the effect of COVID-19 on sport tourism in Hungary. The coronavirus was a huge blow to the world’s economy. It was a tough period in many parts of the world. Many restrictions, several rules have been introduced and numerous innocent lives have been lost due to the pandemic. The main aim of the thesis was to analyze the changes that this period has caused. Moreover, to research how did the epidemic change every day people’s sporting habits and what has changed in relation to their sporting event visits. To lead the thesis, research questions were formed at the beginning. In the first section of the dissertation introduction and background can be found. The topics of the background are mainly definitions. The reason for this is to clarify certain expressions. At the first stage of the thesis, the concept includes the whole world, after that, it is heading onto Europe, and finally, Hungary will be discussed. In the literature review part, many sections will be mentioned. The topic of the thesis is brand new theme, it only happened in the recent past, so most of the information can be found online. In the literature review we can find topics like motivation for sports, the appearance of COVID-19, the governmental respond for the coronavirus in several European countries, the epidemic’s situation in Hungary, how the hotels had to change due to the epidemic, how sporting event have changed, how sport tourism operated in the times of COVID-19 in Hungary. For this dissertation, mixed research was used, meaning both qualitative and quantitative research strategy. From the qualitative point of view, two interview was made. Both interviewees are professionals in their field thanks to their personal background in connection with the topics of the dissertation. István Sallói and Károly Gelei were the interviewees. One of them was a Sports Director at some Hungarian football clubs, even during pandemic, so the familiarity with the topic of the thesis was clear. Mr. Gelei is former goalkeeper, who is currently working in the tourism industry. He organizes football matches in Hungary and abroad. He also organized event during the pandemic, so he could tell his experiences. For this reason, both interviews have been subservient supporting the thesis. The topic of the interviews was about the changes that the coronavirus has caused for the sport clubs, athletes, hotels, and also event organizers. The quantitative research strategy was a questionnaire. The aim for the survey was to ask average people about the changes of their sporting event visits and about also the changes of their own sporting habits. 17 questions were asked and 82 people have filled the survey and their answer was summarized and analyzed by the author. At the end of the thesis, the previously asked research questions have been answered with the help of the survey and the interviews. The whole summary of thesis has been described in the conclusion part of the dissertation. Recommendations can also be seen in the end.
