Absztrakt (kivonat)

The factors that preceded the writing of my thesis were when the coronavirus epidemic started in Hungary. It was clearly seen that restrictions and closures were put in place overnight to prevent many people from being in one place such as nightclubs, hotels, spas, pubs, restaurants, and the rest. These are all places that are not required to be open, such as an office or school, so it was felt that closing them would be the first logical step in terms of closures. Following and experiencing the events, entertainment venues, restaurants, pubs, bars, and hotels were kept closed for a long time. Overtourism is an increasingly typical problem for Budapest, the city is full of Hop-on Hop-off buses, there are many foreigners in the city center, as in Király street and Gozsdu Courtyard. They leave a lot of trash and disturb the local residents with their noise. However, with the emergence of the coronavirus and its appearance in our country, together with the closures, it was a bad solution for tourism, but a good solution for overtourism. The people living in the city center could breathe a sigh of relief, the noise pollution caused by the entertainment venues around their residences ceased along with the noise in the evening. The restaurants were still fine after the first closures, but they were not able to properly recover their lost traffic after the closures, which they suffered during the closure, nor after the closures, because foreigners could not come to the city. Thus, fewer tourists were the solution for the residents, but many businesses that depended on foreign  tourists were ruined. There were several restaurants that simply kept their higher prices and started marketing their place to local residents, and it worked for several of them. Thus, my research was based on what was described above, according to which overtourism has an effect on the local residents in the areas affected by it, what solutions the local government tried to put in place to curb it, and what effect the coronavirus epidemic had on the local residents in the areas affected by the overtourism and how the local economy, local businesses and residents experienced the epidemic and how the epidemic gave rise to a new life situation, whereby tourists disappeared from a given settlement or area overnight. The research, data collection and interviewing of the population gave a comprehensive picture of the problem of overtourism and the coronavirus, as well as the connection between the coronavirus and overtourism. Although it is mainly echoed in the media that the excessive number of tourists makes life difficult for local residents, this is not true for Budapest or Hungary, i.e. only in a very small number of cases. Residents were not bothered by the many tourists, but by the closures caused by covid and the disappearance of tourists. The coronavirus, although it was clear, did not come as a surprise, the residents were affected mentally by the virus, who became infected, and many of them physically as well. In summary, the coronavirus had an impact on overtourism, but contrary to the expected, positive result, the image of empty streets, an empty city and closed shops still had a negative effect on the residents. The main problem is not overtourism, but individuals not respecting each other's culture.
