Absztrakt (kivonat)

The purpose of the dissertation is to examine and validate the importance of sport tourism and sport event tourism. Focusing on sport events, primarily analysing the Olympic Games, the dissertation aims to review the development of sport event tourism during the past, and to evaluate its growth potential by analysing the past and current trends. By reviewing literature and data on the history of sport tourism and events from the beginnings to the current days, the dissertation will examine the development and past trends of sport event tourism. Focusing on the development of the Olympic Games, the dissertation will research the history of Olympism from the birth of the Games till modern days. The economic impacts of sport events will be reviewed focusing on the Olympic Games. The dissertation aims to evaluate the importance of sport event tourism within the tourism industry by researching data available of the Games. Besides examining the economic impacts on the host country, the study will give an account of the social and cultural effects of sport tourism, analysing its benefits and disadvantages regarding the host community. The study aims to analyse the topic of hallmark sport event or mega-event management. For this purport, the dissertation will research data on the planning, preparations and realization of hallmark sport events. Together with the help of an in-depth interview, the research aims to validate and highlight the tourism impacts of sport events and determine the key factors for managing a successful sport event. Using the data and information retrieved in the secondary research, the past and current trends of sport event tourism will be evaluated.
