Absztrakt (kivonat)

Abstract The main goal of my dissertation was to map the main motivations of entrepreneurs. To this end, I have examined the factors and challenges that influence entrepreneurial motivation, including internal and external challenges, in the literature section of my dissertation. I also dealt with the question of what motivates an entrepreneur, and I analyzed in detail the entrepreneurial motivation itself, including motivational factors such as sense of control, personal growth, self-reliance, passion. I also examined four-factor models of entrepreneurial motivation, more specifically Robichaud et al. (2001). I also analyzed Freeman’s stakeholder theory, projected onto entrepreneurship. In my research I used both qualitative and quantitative methods. The aim of my dissertation is to explore the motivations of entrepreneurs, as well as the reasons and factors that motivated them to start a business. My further goal is to explore what factors affect the life of an entrepreneur and what difficulties they have to deal with in their business. As my qualitative research, I chose the in-depth interview method to gain a deeper and more nuanced knowledge of a given factor, motivations and reasons can also be researched with its help.  I managed to ask 12 entrepreneurs and asked 19 questions. In my quantitative, questionnaire research, I formulated 20 questions and asked the opinions of 85 individuals about their opinion about entrepreneurs and businesses. My aim was to know what they think about entrepreneurs, what risk factors arise / have arisen during their business, and why they started entrepreneurship at all, moreover, what motivates them. During my dissertation, several factors were identified based on my research. It revealed in the interviews that the majority of respondents believe that experience is important for start-up entrepreneurs. Moreover, it can be stated that the majority of respondents have long known that they want to be an entrepreneur and have been entrepreneurs for a long time. During the interviews also confirmed the fact that each of the respondents started a business based on individual motivation. It can be stated that all the respondents - without exception - found motivation important. It can be said that the respondents are mostly motivated by fulfilment and gaining experience, followed by professional development, money and mental development, and then challenge. During my questionnaire research, there were entrepreneurs among those who completed the questionnaire, but there were also those who did not want to be an entrepreneur but wanted to be or think about it, and there were those who only expressed their opinion about entrepreneurs but did not want to be entrepreneurs themselves. The questionnaire revealed that money, gaining experience and acknowledgement are the ones that motivate the respondents the most, which is in line with the answers of the interviewed entrepreneurs, most of whom also highlighted gaining experience and acknowledgement factors. They are least motivated by managerial behaviour, which is also possible because entrepreneurs, especially self-employed entrepreneurs have no superiors just themselves. At the end of my dissertation, I proved three of my hypotheses, of which the first half of my first hypothesis was false and the second half true. My second and third hypotheses proved to be true. I put it that way in my suggestions that the Hungarian state should finance psychological help to start-ups and encourage them to become entrepreneurs.
