This paper aims to explain and explore a few challenges that currently undermine the aviation industry. Of course, many more exist – in the following pages three will be reported: state aid, business travel, and competition in relation to slot control. The first two of these have appeared only because of COVID, others had already been an issue before and were only highlighted by the pandemic. The issues discussed in this paper were chosen either because they are inevitable to talk about, or because of personal interest. The goal of this paper is to present these issues, ask how they currently influence aviation, what steps are being taken to solve them, what solutions exist, and what conclusions can be drawn.
