Survey about how Covid-19 has influenced our music listening habitsStudent Name: Gergő Smátrola Consultant: Zsolt Molnár Institute Name: Budapest Business SchoolABSTRACTThis abstract is a kind of representation of how COVID-19 made some bigger alterations in our life. Everyone is aware of how many difficulties a pandemic situation could make through a couple of years. Therefore, I brought a factor that COVID-19 has modified from the roots. This factor is our music listening habits. Due to the restrictions, people have been forced to use online music streaming platforms instead of taking part in different live music events. One of my goals is to find out to what extent these consequences changed our music listening habits and get to know people’s opinions about this modification. On the other hand, suspending festivals, concerts and other live performances were also able to affect not just our daily routine, but the lives of musicians and bands as well. In case of that, my second aim is to discover how COVID-19 influenced the careers of performers too. This study also aims to investigate the period before and after the pandemic situation. In this case, we will have a possibility to collect all the advantages and disadvantages in connection with the change. Last, but not least, one of my objectives is to interpret how online music services could take control over offline music listening habits in a pandemic situation and which platform had the opportunity to reach the largest number of people in the world as well.               Taking research methodology into consideration, I suppose an online survey and an in-depth interview would represent perfectly my goals. I have already set some hypotheses which I will investigate through these manners. This is going to be about how listeners were able to relate to the restrictions and to what extent they used several online streaming platforms such as Spotify or YouTube Music. I think it can be also indispensable to determine which platform became the most popular among the pandemic situation because getting this information I will be able to confirm or refute one of my hypotheses according to Spotify has become the leading platform through the years.  On the other hand, this questionnaire also tries to examine what role festivals and other live music events have played in their lives and how much they will stick to these events after the mitigation. As a result of this, I will have a possibility to determine to what extent the reputation of these events will remain the same as before.                As far as the in-depth interview. I’m going to ask two famous performers in case to gain insight into the lives of musicians in the COVID-19. I’m planning to investigate how the virus has influenced their careers and whether they could find any solution to this problem. This in-depth interview also tries to answer how they were able to get used to the usage of these online music streamings and whether there was any positive impact of this lockdown. Furthermore, I also intend to turn on the financial part as well. If they give the permission, I am planning to investigate how much the pandemic reduced their income and whether this lockdown was able to increase their incomes from different online music streaming services.In case of my conclusion, I was able to realize how important the role music plays in our life. It can be an indispensable tool that became more significant during the COVID-19. One of the biggest conclusions was that with the effect of the lockdown, many people were forced to use different online music platforms in order to get through these hard times. As we can establish that Spotify tends to be the main leader in this competition since most of the respondents were willing to use this kind of application. Besides that, I also realized that the reputation of live music events was not extinct at all. People will continue to visit different live music performances after the restrictions, that could be a good sing for all artists and owners of different festivals as well. This is going to be a piece of promising news for them because I also got to know that this kind of period was quite hard for performers. As a result of my interviews, I could create the conclusion that COVID-19 has made some difficulties for the artists since they had to resign their main financial sources such as performing at festivals or concerts. All in all, COVID-19 contained several disadvantages in that year, but fortunately there it could bring some positive effects for artists and listeners as well. These advantages and disadvantages are going to be investigated through my dissertation, and I hope that my thesis will be interesting and successful as well.
