Digitalisation is being increasingly integrated into products and services, as well as supporting corporate business processes. However, few empirical studies have examined the state of digitisation and its application within businesses, and the existing literature paints a mixed picture of digitalisation's effects on SMEs. This survey-based study looks into the spread of digitalisation, the benefits, and challenges of making the shift, and the influence on performance. Furthermore, the study discusses the relationship between digitalisation and small and medium-sized enterprises and its’ effects in Germany and Hungary to compare and study the differences and similarities in both said countries. Especially, to investigate the reason why it is so important to invest or explore in digitalisation. To test the hypothesis primary research has been conducted to understand what kind of perception the population had on digitalisation. Structured survey questionnaires were conducted with a total of 111 participants from both respective countries.
