Absztrakt (kivonat)

As an introduction, I would like to briefly define the topic I have chosen, which is nothing more than the Hungarian maritime commerce, in a couple of short phrases. Trade across borders and continents has been a part of humanity's history from the dawn of time, with the sea serving as the principal conduit for most of it. The marine trade is still as essential today as it was thousands of years ago. Large amounts of commodities can be delivered from one location to another in a cost-effective and safe manner using sea freight as the primary mode of transportation. Because maritime trade continues to account for a significant portion of international trade, we might consider it to be the backbone of both trade and globalization.    It is important to understand exactly what the term "merchant shipping" refers to in this context. The word "merchant shipping" is most used to refer to the transportation of people, raw materials, and manufactured goods. The prerequisites for participating in maritime trade are fairly straightforward, requiring essentially nothing more than coastline access and a commercial fleet. There are some countries, though, that do not have a coastline. There are 44 countries that do not have a coastline that are currently recognized by the United Nations. These countries suffer from a scarcity of coastline, which prevents them from taking advantage of fishing opportunities and reaping the benefits of maritime trade. Due to the fact that Hungary lacks a coastline, it does not have a maritime link. This, however, was not always the case in the past. The country of Hungary has had a maritime trade infrastructure over three longer periods of time throughout its history. Because of the aforesaid, I believe that the topic of marine trade in Hungary is relevant and can be thoroughly investigated. In the secondary research section of my dissertation, I would like to present the periods during which Hungary was actively involved in maritime trade, in a transparent and consistent manner, as well as the reasons for this involvement. I'd like to draw attention to the efforts made by the Hungarian government to restructure and modernize the country's maritime trade, in each period. Because of its long history, Hungary is unique in the world of maritime trade due to the fact that it has created the infrastructure required for marine trade three times over. My dissertation will be divided into two parts: the first half will look back in time and present the distinctive characteristics of the development of marine commerce infrastructure in each of the three time periods; the second half will look forward into the directions of the future.  The aim of my secondary research is to present the past of Hungarian maritime trade. The difficulty with the topic of Hungarian maritime trade is that it has been part of Hungarian history for quite some time, so I must present a very long period. Another difficulty is that the nature of Hungarian maritime trade has changed many times during its existence. Hungarian maritime trade is a rather complex topic, it can be approached from many directions, I would like to present it primarily in the context of historical events, I would like to place great emphasis on changes and new technological solutions. In the second half of the dissertation, I would like to address current events in some detail. New port investments are what I mean by "present occurrences." In 2020, Hungary had purchased a port that was previously owned by Trieste. It is vital to note that, in addition to purchasing the land, Hungary also purchased a concession belonging to the port-area. It is possible to obtain a concession through the state or a municipal authority. The concession ensures the right to exercise the activities authorized by law, which is transmitted in a fixed-term contract, thus allowing the right holder an exclusive market monopoly for a set period of time and geographical area. There are currently no official plans in place for the port's use. The aim of my research is to examine the current features of Hungarian maritime trade and the possibilities for its future development.
