The tourism industry of Saudi Arabia has long benefited from religious tourism. Every year, more than two million Muslims perform Hajj in Makkah (General Authority for Statistics of SA 2021). Hajj is a worship ritual bringing pilgrims from all around the world to perform similar activities at the same time. However, its logistics are not only limited to the management of transportation, accommodation, and food. Over 19 million liters of the holy water are distributed, Satan’s stoning ritual requires more than 100 million pebbles and around 600,000 sheep are sacrificed, making the coordination a serious logistical challenge. This leaves us wondering about the size of the impact that logistics can have on the religious tourists’ experience (Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, 2022). This research paper examines the dynamics of the relationship between logistics and the Hajj pilgrims’ satisfaction, in the past, and present, by using the qualitative method with the explanatory approach and secondary data to review the case, as well as using as the measurement tool of Parasuraman’s SERVQUAL model (Parasuraman & Zeithaml, 1990) to figure out the degree of pilgrims' satisfaction. The findings indicate that modern logistics services depending on high technologies and qualified employees, were responsible for the growth of pilgrim’s number and have made the ritual practice efficient. But overcrowding is still considered as a major issue that impacts the safety and satisfaction of the pilgrims and requires rapid intervention from the Saudi Arabian authorities.
